I've had this Google Chromebook for about eight years. A few days ago, it stopped charging and wouldn't power on. It briefly started working again yesterday, but now it's unresponsive once more. I left it charging overnight and it indicated 100%, yet it still won't turn on or appear to be charging. What could be causing this, and is there anything I can try before replacing it?

After that many years, the battery may have reached the end of its useful life. A battery can sometimes report 100% while no longer holding enough usable charge to start the Chromebook. Check the exact model and look into whether a replacement battery is available and reasonably priced. If the battery is swollen or the device gets unusually hot, stop using it and have it inspected.
Given its age and the inconsistent charging and startup behavior, another internal component could also be failing, such as the charging port, charger, power circuit, or motherboard. Try a known-good compatible charger and a hard reset using the Chromebook’s refresh and power keys, but an eight-year-old device may not be worth extensive repairs. Replacing it is likely the more reliable long-term option.

I’m trying to save for a replacement, so I’m hoping a battery or charger fix can keep it running in the meantime.
