My parents have an older Toshiba TV with a built-in DVD player that started turning on by itself during the night. The TV has a plasma screen and a Roku stick connected. We've already ruled out the remotes as an issue since we took the batteries out of both the Roku and the main TV remote. We're really confused about this and only have the option of unplugging it. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

First, try unplugging the Roku to see if that stops the TV from turning on. You could also unplug the DVD player, even though it's built-in, just to check if that's the cause.
I've had a similar issue where buttons on the remote would stick and cause devices to power on by themselves. Just double-check to make sure no buttons are stuck!
If you're living in an apartment, it's possible someone else's remote might be accidentally turning on the TV or Roku. Check the HDMI settings on the TV, particularly HDMI-CEC, which might cause the TV to power on when it receives a signal through the HDMI connection. Just go into the settings and turn it off to see if that helps.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check the settings. We aren’t in an apartment, though, so that might not be the issue.
