Whenever my monitor goes to sleep after a period of inactivity, Windows plays the device-disconnected sound. Event Viewer shows Kernel-PnP entries saying that a DISPLAY device was unexpectedly removed, such as DISPLAYNVT079C7&16d71fe5&0&UID1024 or DISPLAYMSI3CD97&16d71fe5&0&UID1024. I've already tried disabling the monitor's audio device, but the sound still occurs. I want the monitor to continue sleeping normally—how can I stop the disconnect notification or prevent this from being logged as a surprise removal?

This is probably the display adapter or monitor connection being powered down when the screen enters sleep. Windows interprets that as the display device disappearing and plays the same sound used for unplugging USB hardware. Check the Windows power settings and graphics-driver settings for options that power down or reset the display, but keep in mind that disabling the power transition may also prevent the monitor from sleeping normally.
I do want the monitor to go to sleep; I’m mainly trying to stop the disconnect sound and the misleading Kernel-PnP warning.
