Why does my phone still show a charging icon when it's unplugged?

I've noticed a weird issue with my phone's charging icon. When I plug it in to charge, it works fine, but when I unplug it, the icon still shows that it's charging even though it's not actually connected to the cable. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

First off, have you tried restarting your phone? Sometimes a simple reboot can fix weird glitches like this.

Sounds like the sensor might be malfunctioning. It could be a hardware issue if it's consistently showing that it's charging even when it's not.
