Why Does My Video File Claim to Be an Hour Long but Only Plays for Eight Minutes?

I've got a perplexing issue with a video file I downloaded for work. The file says it's over an hour long when I check in VLC, but when I try to play it, it only runs for about eight minutes. The timeline displays the correct total time initially, but then it jumps down to around six minutes midway. What's going on with this file?

It sounds like the file might be corrupted. Have you checked how large the file is and what its bitrate is? That could give you some clues!

You could try repairing the video using VLC. It has some built-in tools for this, which might help get it back to normal. Let me know if you'd like more details on how to do that!
