Why Does Norton Security Reinstall After a Factory Reset?

I did a factory reset on my computer today and noticed that Norton Security was still there. I uninstalled it and restarted my computer, but then I saw a quick white flash in the top left corner and a command prompt appeared for a second. Is this kind of behavior normal after uninstalling Norton?

Factory resets can sometimes reinstall bloatware that was originally part of the system. For a cleaner option in the future, consider doing a clean Windows install from a USB stick. That should help avoid this kind of issue. And yes, if Norton uninstalled successfully, it’s likely fine.

Thanks! I’m mainly worried about the white flash and the command prompt. Is there anything that could explain that?

Did you buy a prebuilt PC? It's common that some manufacturers bundle Norton with their factory images, as they pay to include their software. So it could just be a part of the system you got.

I did buy a prebuilt in 2023, but I don't recall Norton being there when I first got it or before the factory reset.

I got mine from Paradox Customs and didn't see Norton initially.
