Why does the volume on my headphones keep decreasing by itself?

I've been using my phone to play music at the gym, but I've encountered a frustrating issue: the volume keeps decreasing on its own while I'm running. When I try to turn it up, it just goes back down, almost like it's trying to fight me. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
