Why Is an Unknown Pixel 9 Pro Showing as Connected to My iPhone?

I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro Max on iOS 18.7.1. When I opened Bluetooth to connect my headphones, I noticed a device labeled "Pixel 9 Pro" listed as connected. I don't own that phone and have never knowingly paired with it. Tapping the device didn't disconnect it, and there was no blue info icon beside it like there normally is for Bluetooth devices. I've turned Bluetooth off for now. Could this indicate a security problem, or is there another explanation?

I didnโt have Spotify or any other music app open when the Pixel appeared, so Iโm not sure an app-based explanation applies here.

It could be a temporary display glitch or an app-related discovery feature rather than an actual Bluetooth pairing. Some music apps have introduced nearby-device features that can surface information about other usersโ devices, although that explanation may not fit if the app wasnโt open.

I wouldnโt assume this means your phone was compromised. Check Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Bluetooth and review which apps have Bluetooth permission. If the unfamiliar device continues appearing, try resetting Network Settings, though youโll need to reconnect your saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices afterward.

Iโve seen similarly strange devices appear in Apple settings even though they were never owned or used by the account holder. Itโs unsettling, but an unexplained device listing by itself doesnโt prove that someone accessed the phone. Keep Bluetooth off for the moment, restart the iPhone, and check whether the listing returns.
