Why is my download speed so slow all of a sudden?

I recently reset my PC because my Wi-Fi drivers were acting up. Now that I've reinstalled Steam and started downloading games, my download speed is terrible. I used to get around 70-100 Mbps, but now it's dropped to a frustrating 30-50 Mbps, and sometimes even as low as 7-9 Mbps! My download region is correctly set, and I've tried everything I can think of. I have some massive games to download and don't want to wait forever. Also, Windows seems to be forcing Steam to run in efficiency mode, which is really annoying. Can anyone help me figure this out?

If you're using a VPN, try turning it off to see if that improves your speeds. Sometimes VPNs can really slow things down, especially if they’re not optimized for speed.

It sounds like you might need to check your internet type and router settings. What type of internet do you have? And what’s your Wi-Fi version - like Wi-Fi 4, 5, or 6? It also helps to know the link speed of your connection. If your router isn't set up right or if you're in a bad area for Wi-Fi, that could be the issue.

I've also noticed my browser is loading slower these days, not just my downloads. Could that be related?

I have Wi-Fi 4, and my link speed is 144/144 Mbps. What does that say about my setup? I’m not really sure about any of the specifics!
