I've been having some serious performance issues with my external USB storage drive lately. It seems to max out in performance, which causes my laptop to run very slowly, and sometimes it even freezes. I figured out that it's definitely the drive causing the problem because when I unplug it, my laptop runs normally again. I've had this drive for a couple of years, using it mainly for video games and other files since my laptop's storage is limited. This issue has never happened before, and the drive hasn't been moved or anything. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

You might want to check the SMART characteristics of your drive. If it’s performing poorly, it could be a sign that it’s failing soon. Keeping an eye on that can give you a heads up before it completely gives out. Good luck!

I ran chkdsk and found some corruption issues, but what's concerning is the message about not enough space to replace bad clusters. My drive's 6TB, and I'm only using 2, so I’m confused about that.
