Why is my Google WiFi only getting speeds below 100 Mbps when my modem shows 1.5 Gbps?

I've noticed that my Google WiFi router from 2016 isn't able to achieve speeds over 90 Mbps during tests, even though my Bell modem shows I'm getting 1.5 Gbps down and 899 Mbps up. This has been an ongoing issue for over a month, but I just caught it last night when my house was filled with devices. I've since isolated my Bell Gigahub modem and the Google WiFi router, used two different Ethernet cables, and tested all four ports on the modem—all with the same result: speed tests from my Google Home app show an average of 80 to 90 Mbps. I'm wondering if the issue is with my modem, my router, or the cables. If I want to resolve this, should I: 1. Call Bell for a new modem? 2. Swap out my primary Google WiFi puck with another one to test? 2a. Use a satellite puck to set up a new network just for testing? 3. Replace all four pucks with a new mesh system? I'm leaning towards option 2a, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Have you checked the specs of your Google router? It may have limitations on speed due to its age. If it's only capable of 100 Mbps, that's probably your bottleneck. Also, ensure you’re using high-quality cables; while CAT5e shouldn't be a major issue, considering an upgrade to CAT6 or CAT7 could be beneficial.

Before replacing anything, have you tried checking if the router has bandwidth limitations set? If it has an option to set speeds, it might be restricting your connection. Also, keep in mind that distance and interference can affect performance too.
