Why is my iPhone blocking adult websites in every browser?

My iPhone suddenly started blocking adult websites in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo. The sites show a message saying access is restricted, and Google SafeSearch appears to be enforced even though I'm an adult and my accounts aren't part of a family group. I tested multiple Wi-Fi networks, cellular data, different DNS settings, and a VPN, but the problem only happens on this phone. There are no restrictions enabled in the iPhone's Content & Privacy settings, and the same connections work normally on other phones. I'm currently traveling within the EU, but this started only recently. What could be causing the device-wide block?

The cause turned out to be a social-media restriction app installed on the phone. Removing or disabling that app fixed the website blocks and the forced SafeSearch behavior. The travel or roaming connection was unrelated.

A VPN or changing DNS usually won’t help if the restriction is being applied locally by an app or device-management profile. Check installed apps, Screen Time settings, VPN and device-management profiles, and any content-filtering or security apps. Since every browser is affected, the browser itself probably isn’t the cause.

I already tried a VPN and confirmed that the normal Content & Privacy restrictions are off, so I’ll check for profiles or other filtering apps.

Try entering the complete website address directly instead of opening it through a search result. If direct navigation works, the issue is probably tied to Google SafeSearch or the account. If it is blocked in every browser either way, the restriction is more likely coming from the phone or an installed app.

Direct URLs are blocked too, so it isn’t just a search-results setting.

If SafeSearch says it is enforced even though your account settings show it disabled, something outside the account is controlling it. Look for a recently installed parental-control, focus, wellness, or social-media restriction app, and temporarily disable or remove it. Also check Settings for device-management profiles.
