Why is my laptop clock constantly out of sync and why does it freeze?

Hey everyone, I'm having some unexpected issues with my 3-year-old Lenovo Legion 5 laptop running Windows. Recently, the clock has been going out of sync repeatedly - even after I sync it, it only stays accurate for a few minutes before going wrong again.

On top of that, the laptop has started freezing during use. When this happens, my primary application becomes unresponsive, and eventually, all other applications freeze too, displaying a 'not responding' status. I can switch between apps using Alt + Tab, but clicking on any icons does nothing. I opened Task Manager using hotkeys, which showed normal CPU, RAM, and GPU usage at the time, but even it ended up freezing. I couldn't shut down the laptop from the user interface, so I had to press the power button to turn it off. However, the screen went black, yet the keyboard lights and fans remained on, forcing me to perform a hard power-off. When I tried to turn it back on, nothing happened initially, only a glowing power button. After waiting 5 minutes, it powered on normally. This freezing issue happens regularly, about once a day, and my device doesn't respond for a restart unless I wait after a shutdown. I've tried restoring the BIOS to defaults and manually setting the clock in BIOS, but that hasn't fixed anything. I'm wondering if this is a hardware or software issue and would love some advice!

It sounds like your laptop's CMOS battery could be having issues, especially since the clock is constantly losing time. Try changing it out! Though, just a heads-up, the CMOS battery usually doesn't affect the clock when your laptop is powered on—so check if the main battery is okay too. If it’s not that, maybe there’s something more serious going on with the motherboard.

I get what you’re saying, but if the laptop is running and losing time, the issue might not just be the CMOS battery. It could point to problems deeper in the system.
