Why is My New Laptop Already Out of Storage?

I got a new laptop about two months ago, and it's already showing low storage. We only have two games installed, and they don't take up much space, so I'm confused. I need to download Pro Tools for school, but I keep getting an "extract_enomem" error, which I think is due to the storage issue. I suspect my younger brother's OneDrive being full is causing this since he set it up with his info. I primarily use this laptop, so it would be great to have it set up under my account, but right now, I just want to clear out the unnecessary storage as soon as possible because I need to access Pro Tools for my homework!

It could also be that the person who bought the laptop didn't account for the storage needs of multiple users. If you can, try removing your brother's user profile. That should free up a lot of space quickly!

What operating system are you using? If it's a Mac, there's a built-in tool under System Settings -> General -> Storage that shows your usage. For Windows, you can check under Settings -> System -> Storage. It also helps to know your total hard drive size. Maybe someone is hoarding big files!

You might want to check if your laptop has both a small SSD for the system and a larger HDD for storage. If everything is stored on the small SSD, it could be filling up quickly. Maybe that's what's going on!

Yeah, that sounds like a common issue. Most laptops have a small SSD for Windows, and if all your files are there, it fills up fast!

I recommend downloading TreeSize. It'll help you see what's consuming all your storage. It's super handy for figuring out what's taking up space and if your drives are set up correctly.

Definitely! TreeSize will lay out everything by size, plus it'll show if your disk is partitioned into system and storage drives.
