Why is my new RTX 5080 gaming PC running slowly?

I bought a custom-built gaming PC about a month ago, and it is my first gaming computer. The system is advertised as having a Ryzen 7 9850X3D, an RTX 5080, and 32GB of RAM, but everything feels much slower than I expected. I'm not very experienced with PC hardware, so I'd appreciate help checking the setup, identifying the problem, and optimizing it for better performance. I can provide game names, graphics settings, frame rates, temperatures, or benchmark results if needed.

โ€œSlowโ€ can mean several different things, so collect some specific information first: which games are affected, your resolution and graphics settings, average FPS, CPU and GPU usage, temperatures, and whether Windows itself feels sluggish. A benchmark can also help confirm whether the hardware is performing normally.

Run a free graphics benchmark such as Unigine Superposition and record the score, GPU load, and temperatures. Comparing the result with systems using similar hardware should show whether the 5080 is working correctly. Also check that the CPU and GPU are not overheating.

Make sure Windows and all drivers are current, especially the graphics card and motherboard chipset drivers. Check the BIOS memory settings too: DDR5 RAM often runs at a slower default speed until its rated profile, such as EXPO, is enabled. After updating everything, test performance again before installing any โ€œoptimizerโ€ software.

Start by checking the monitor cable. It needs to be plugged into the RTX 5080 rather than the motherboardโ€™s video output. If itโ€™s connected to the motherboard, the computer may be using integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU.
