Why is My Partner’s WiFi So Slow After a Recent Setup Change?

Recently, our landlord accidentally cut the fiber cable to our place, and when the engineer fixed it, he relocated the hub to a nicer spot, which freed up a lot of visible cables running across our dining room. Seeing this as an opportunity, I bought my partner a WiFi dongle for her PC instead of running a long cable upstairs. We have the same WiFi adapter model, and her PC is in the same room as mine, only a few feet apart. However, she's experiencing incredibly slow internet speeds, to the point where she can't even watch YouTube without buffering. Interestingly, she had no issues hotspotting from her phone while we were waiting for the engineer. Her computer is slightly better than mine, with a B550 motherboard and a newer CPU, while I'm using an older B450 and running Windows 11 compared to her Windows 10. I'm really confused about why this is happening. Where should I begin to troubleshoot?

Have you thought about swapping the WiFi adapters? That might help figure out if the issue is with her adapter or something else.

Check the exact path from the adapter to the router. If there's a wall at a sharp angle, like 90 degrees, that can block signals. Try using a longer cable to reposition the dongle around the room to see if it improves the connection.
