Why Is My PC Ping Over 200 While My Xbox Stays Around 30โ€“50?

When I play online games on my PC, my ping has suddenly increased to over 200 ms. This only started a few days ago. My Xbox still gets the usual 30โ€“50 ms ping, even though it connects over Wiโ€‘Fi while my PC uses Ethernet. What could be causing the problem, and how can I troubleshoot it?

Compare both devices under similar conditions. If the Xbox is playing on a different server or game region, its ping may not be directly comparable. On the PC, check the gameโ€™s selected region, disable any VPN, and run a ping test to your router and to a general internet address. A normal router ping but high game ping usually points to the game server or PC software; high router ping suggests a local network or Ethernet issue.

The game server and the connection route can affect ping, but since your Xbox is still normal, the issue may be specific to the PC, the game, or the Ethernet connection. Try restarting the PC and router, testing another Ethernet cable or router port, and checking whether the high ping happens in other games. Also make sure the PC isnโ€™t downloading updates or syncing files in the background.

MellowCedar42: The Xbox is on Wiโ€‘Fi and the computer is connected by Ethernet, so Iโ€™ll test the cable and router port first.
