My PC has had extremely slow Wi‑Fi for about six months. During the same speed test, my phone reached around 200 Mbps while the PC managed less than 4 Mbps. I've already tried reinstalling the network drivers, changing advanced adapter settings, and disconnecting and reconnecting the ASUS Wi‑Fi antenna. The connection is now so slow that streaming music, watching live video, and opening my work portal often become nearly impossible. The PC is on a desk in a fairly open area about 7 meters from the router. The motherboard is an ASUS TUF GAMING A620M-PLUS WIFI. I've also tried installing newer drivers, but Windows keeps showing an older driver dated 2025-09-22 instead of the version dated 2026-03-06. What else should I check?

To separate a Windows or driver problem from a hardware or signal problem, boot the PC from a temporary Linux USB system such as Ubuntu or Fedora and run a speed test there. If speeds are normal in Linux, investigate the Windows driver or network configuration. If they are still below 4 Mbps, the adapter, antenna, interference, or Wi‑Fi compatibility is more likely responsible. Also download the exact Wi‑Fi driver for the motherboard from the manufacturer’s support page and remove the existing adapter driver before installing it, rather than relying only on Windows Update.
This could be signal quality rather than your internet service. Even with the PC only 7 meters away, the antenna orientation, the direction the case is facing, and nearby interference can affect reception. Try repositioning the antennas or temporarily moving the PC closer to the router. If the built-in adapter remains unreliable, a good external USB Wi‑Fi adapter or, ideally, an Ethernet cable may solve it.
The computer is in a mostly open spot, but I’ll try changing the antenna and PC position to see whether the signal improves.
