Why is my RTX 5090 showing up as an RTX 5080?

I'm in the process of building a new computer and just installed what I thought was an RTX 5090. However, when I check my system specs, it displays as an RTX 5080. I also checked with GPU-Z and it confirms that it's showing as a 5080 as well, even though both the card and the box say they're 5090. What could be going on here?

I would recommend pulling the card out and checking for any model stickers near the PCIe connector. Taking some photos might help you identify the real model number.

It seems like you may have been scammed. Some sellers will swap the heatsink from a 5090 and put it on a lower-end card like a 5080. Definitely check if that's the case before proceeding.

Where did you purchase the card? If it's from a retailer, it's possible someone returned it after switching it out with another card. If you can, try to return it for a refund.
