I recently bought a 1TB Samsung 990 Pro with a heat sink from Walmart. However, when I installed it in my PC, it was recognized as a WD Black SN770 500GB SSD in the BIOS. Since the SSD came with a heat sink, I can't directly inspect it, and the warranty void sticker is still intact. Is it possible for the BIOS to misidentify the SSD, or could there have been some kind of return fraud?

You should try downloading the Samsung Magician software to check if it identifies the drive correctly. If it still shows up as a WD Black, that’s a strong sign someone swapped it out, and you should consider returning it.

I had it in my unraid server first but moved it to my PC to run the Samsung Magician. It still shows as a WD Black. Looks like I might have been scammed. They did a good job keeping that warranty sticker intact!
