My internet connection consistently measures above 140 Mbps on speed tests, but my Xbox downloads games and updates at around 4 Mbps. The Xbox is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable, and the only other device using the connection is a phone or tablet streaming crochet videos over Wi-Fi. What could be causing the Xbox download speed to be so much lower than my internet speed?

First, run the network speed test directly from the Xbox settings. If the console also reports roughly 140 Mbps, your home network is probably fine and the limitation may be the game server, Xbox service traffic, or the storage drive while it installs and verifies files. Downloads can slow down significantly during those stages.
If the Xbox speed test is also slow, reboot the router and console, then check the Ethernet link. If the Xbox test is fast but downloads remain around 4 Mbps, the bottleneck is more likely the download server, Xbox service congestion, or the console processing files rather than your internet plan.
Changing DNS can sometimes help with name resolution or connecting to a different service endpoint, but it usually won’t fix a sustained download-speed problem. I’d check the Xbox speed test, cable, router port, and Xbox service status before changing DNS settings.
It’s worth checking both the Xbox’s built-in speed test and an actual game download. A fast connection test doesn’t always mean every download server will deliver data at the same rate.
