Why is Office365 Message Trace So Slow to Update?

I'm noticing that the message trace in Office365 doesn't seem to update in real time. Often, I have to wait around an hour for it to reflect new information. Is there a reason for this lag?

Yeah, I feel you on that! The refresh button can be misleading too. Sometimes you think you've refreshed, but you actually need to reload the entire page to see any updates.

For summary reports, typically they should only be a few minutes behind real time. If you’re seeing longer delays, it might be worth checking the server status or any ongoing issues.

Has happened to me too. I found the default end time for traces usually leaves out the last 0-30 minutes of data. If you manually adjust the end date, you often receive results immediately!

The update speed can really depend on server load. Sometimes it’ll take just a couple of minutes to refresh, but other times it can lag up to 20 minutes. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do on our end to speed it up. Often, I find myself tracing messages long after the actual issue occurred.
