Why is RAM so pricey these days?

I'm considering upgrading my current setup from 16GB of 4400 RAM to 32GB, but I can't seem to find anything under $100 CAD. Is it just me or is RAM really still expensive?

If you're considering DDR4-4400, that's probably overkill. Your motherboard might not even support that speed fully. I'd suggest looking for a 2x16GB kit at DDR4-3600 speeds instead. That should be plenty fast for gaming or multimedia without breaking the bank.

If you really do have 4400 DDR4 and youโre not tech-savvy, Iโd be surprised! Most people who invest in that know exactly what they have. In any case, if it's DDR5 you've got, you're better off selling that and getting a 6000MT/s kit for around $85 instead.

Teamgroup 32GB 3600 CL18 is going for $75 over at Memory Express! That's a solid deal compared to other options if you can find it.

DDR4 is on the way out, and prices are expected to increase as supply dwindles. So, the higher prices might be your new reality until more people switch to DDR5. Be prepared for these costs to continue rising!

It really depends on whether you're looking at DDR4 or DDR5. DDR4 production is winding down, which is driving prices up since fewer factories are making it. If you're on DDR4, expect to pay more as inventory runs low. But if you're looking at DDR5, that's a different ballgame!
GamerGuru88: Alright, but isnโt there still demand for DDR4? I heard some companies started making it again due to the price hikes.
MemoryMaster007: Yeah, it seems like they are trying to cash in before it's gone for good!

CuriousWolf42: I just checked, and it turns out it is 4400. I bought a prebuilt, so I didn't have much choice.
