I've been using this device for a long time and recently wanted to connect it to my iPhone to transfer files more quickly to an SD card. The reader itself appears to work, but the iPhone doesn't detect it anywhere. It was advertised as supporting data transfers, so I'm not sure whether the issue is compatibility, the adapter, or something else. What should I check?

Make sure the adapter is a data-capable reader rather than a charging-only accessory. Try another SD card, confirm the card is formatted in a format the iPhone supports, and connect it directly without extra hubs. The iPhone model and connector type are also important details when diagnosing this.
Could you provide the reader’s exact brand and model? “SD station” isn’t a standard device name, and compatibility depends on whether it uses Lightning or USB-C, whether it supports data transfer, and whether the iPhone can supply enough power. Also check the Files app under Browse > Locations after connecting it.

Sorry, I meant an SD card reader. I’ve seen people call it a station, so I used the wrong term. I’ll look for the model number.
