Why won’t my LG remote control my Sony DVD player?

I have an older LG 32LG30-UA television and a Sony DVP-NS67P DVD player. The remote still turns the TV on and off and opens the TV settings menu, but the arrow buttons and other controls no longer operate the DVD player. Whenever I press a button, the TV indicator on the remote flashes orange. I replaced the batteries, unplugged both devices, and checked that nothing is blocking the infrared receiver. The setup worked previously but stopped unexpectedly. What should I check or reprogram?

The remote appears to be in TV mode, not DVD mode. The orange TV indicator flashing means it is sending commands to the television, so the DVD player will ignore them. If this is a universal remote, press its DVD or AUX device button first, then try the arrows and playback controls. If it has no DVD mode, it may not be capable of controlling the Sony player and you’ll need the Sony remote or a programmable universal remote.

Since it worked before, check whether the remote accidentally lost its programmed Sony device code. Re-enter the correct code for the DVP-NS67P using the remote’s setup instructions, then test it while the DVD or AUX indicator is selected. The TV model and DVD model use different infrared command sets, so replacing batteries or restarting the equipment would not fix a lost device setting.

QuietMaple5: The TV and DVD player model numbers are useful here, but the key detail is that the TV light flashes whenever a button is pressed. That strongly suggests the remote is still aimed at the TV control layer rather than the DVD player.
