Why won’t my LG remote control my Sony DVD player?

I have an older LG 32LG30-UA television and a Sony DVP-NS67P DVD player. The remote still turns the TV on and off and opens the TV settings menu, but the arrow buttons and other controls no longer operate the DVD player. Whenever I press a button, the TV indicator on the remote flashes orange. I already replaced the batteries, unplugged both devices, and checked that nothing is blocking the infrared receiver. The remote used to work with the DVD player but suddenly stopped. How can I get it working again?

It sounds like the remote is currently sending commands in TV mode. The flashing TV indicator means it is transmitting, but not necessarily to the DVD player. Try selecting the DVD or AUX device mode on the remote before using the directional buttons. If the remote has lost its programming, it may need to be set up again with the correct Sony DVD code.

It still controls the TV normally, but I’ll check whether the DVD device mode was cleared or switched off.

The model numbers matter here because the LG TV and Sony DVD player may require different control codes. Make sure the remote is aimed at the DVD player’s infrared sensor and that you have selected the DVD function rather than TV. If the TV mode light flashes for every button, that is a strong clue that the remote is still set to TV mode.

Since the remote worked before and the batteries and power resets did not help, the DVD control code may have been lost or the remote may have developed a fault. Check the LG remote’s manual for the universal-device programming procedure and re-enter a code compatible with the Sony DVP-NS67P. Testing with the original Sony DVD remote, if available, would help determine whether the problem is the remote or the player.
