Why won't my TV recognize my gaming PC via HDMI?

I recently got a gaming PC and tried to connect it to my Samsung smart TV since I don't have a monitor yet. However, when I plug in the HDMI cable to the TV, it doesn't seem to recognize the PC at all. What could be the issue?
