Will a 240mm AIO adequately cool an Intel i7-14700K?

I recently bought an Intel i7-14700K and an ASUS TUF Z790-Plus motherboard. I'm currently using an ID-Cooling SE-224-XT air cooler, but I'm concerned it won't be sufficient for the 14700K. I'm considering the MSI MAG CoreLiquid I240 and would like to know whether it can handle this processor. Has anyone used this combination, and are there other 240mm cooling options or settings I should consider? A 360mm radiator won't fit in my case.

If you’re limited to a 240mm radiator, the cooler can still be used, but performance will depend heavily on the specific AIO, fan curve, mounting, and motherboard settings. Don’t rely on the cooler alone—reducing voltage and limiting package power will make a major difference.

Unfortunately, a 360mm radiator won’t fit in my case, so I’m restricted to a 240mm AIO. I’ll look into undervolting and setting power limits.

The 14700K is a very power-hungry, hot processor, so a 360mm AIO would normally be the safer recommendation. Since your case only supports 240mm, choose a strong 240mm cooler, use good case airflow, and tune the CPU rather than letting it run unlimited.

Before stressing the system, update the motherboard BIOS to a recent version that includes the 13th- and 14th-generation Intel stability and power-profile fixes. It’s especially important with a 14700K.

A 240mm AIO can run a 14700K, but don’t expect especially low temperatures at stock power limits. You’ll probably want to set reasonable power limits and apply a mild undervolt. A quality 240mm unit should be workable for gaming and normal workloads, though sustained all-core loads may still get hot.
