Will a 3.5-slot GPU crush the cables on my mATX motherboard?

I'm about to install an XFX Radeon 9070 XT Mercury in a darkFlash DY470 case with a Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 motherboard. The case and general GPU clearance appear to be fine, but the card is roughly 3.5 slots thick and will extend across the bottom edge of the mATX board. That may interfere with the front-panel, USB, HD-audio, SATA, and possibly other connectors.

Are flexible or right-angle cables enough to prevent them from being pressed against the GPU? I can live without USB 3.0 or SATA temporarily if necessary. I'm also considering a vertical GPU mount, such as the Cooler Master Vertical GPU Holder Kit V3, but I'm unsure whether it will create new problems with motherboard clearance, the case, or my AIO radiator. I plan to move to an AM5 platform later, so I'd prefer a temporary solution rather than replacing the motherboard now.

The thin front-panel, USB 2.0, and HD-audio wires can usually be connected first and bent to a 90-degree angle, so they may fit beneath the card. The thicker USB 3.0 header is much more likely to interfere, and standard straight SATA plugs may also be blocked. Right-angle SATA cables or adapters can help, but check their direction and total height before buying.

I can manage without USB 3.0 and SATA for now, but I’ll try pre-bending the smaller cables and using right-angle connectors if needed.

Measure the GPU’s actual thickness and the distance from the motherboard surface to the card before installing it. A 3.5-slot card can press directly against connectors on some mATX boards, and constant pressure on a USB or SATA plug is not something I’d accept. Connect the cables before installing the GPU, and don’t force the card into place if the cables are being crushed.

A vertical mount could solve the connector problem, but it is not automatically compatible. You’ll need to verify that the kit fits the DY470, that the case has the required rear-slot arrangement, and that the mount leaves enough room for the GPU’s width and power cable bend radius. Also check the distance to the AIO radiator, fans, side panel, and motherboard heatsinks. A vertical setup may increase GPU temperatures if the card sits too close to the side panel, so I’d treat it as a backup plan rather than assume it will fit.

That makes sense. I’ll test the regular installation with angled cables first and only consider the vertical kit after confirming its dimensions against the case.
