Will a Clean iOS Install Fix Severe Battery Drain?

My iPhone 17 has been experiencing major battery drain. It performed normally on iOS 26.6, but the problem returned around the time iOS 26.6.1 was released, even before I installed that update. The phone sometimes lasts less than five hours, and on particularly bad days it can reach 100% usage in about three hours, compared with the seven to eight hours I used to get. Battery health is currently 98%. Would completely erasing the phone and setting it up as new, without restoring a backup, help? If so, what is the proper way to perform a clean install?

A clean install usually isn’t a guaranteed fix for battery drain, especially when the battery health is still at 98%. Check the Battery settings to see whether a particular app or system process is using an unusual amount of power before erasing the phone. If you do test a clean install, set it up as new temporarily rather than restoring your backup right away, so you can tell whether the software or your restored data is responsible.

Battery health shows 98%, but the phone sometimes lasts under five hours and can reach 100% usage in roughly three hours. It used to consistently manage around seven to eight hours on iOS 26.6.
