Will a Nintendo-Style Controller Work on a Windows PC?

I found an inexpensive wired controller shaped like an Xbox gamepad, but it's made for Nintendo systems. I've never used Nintendo controllers before, so I'm unsure whether Windows will recognize it as a normal game controller or whether compatibility will be a problem. Is there anything specific I should check before buying it?
