Will a power surge damage my laptop if it’s plugged in?

I had my laptop plugged in while downloading games, and when I returned home, my sister turned on the AC, causing a power surge that made the electricity go out. Thankfully, everyone is fine, but I'm worried about my laptop. It was still on after the incident, but I'm not sure about the charging brick. Did the power surge or the electrical short damage my laptop? If so, how can I check if the laptop and charger are still okay?

Does your laptop have a battery? If so, can it still turn on? If it does, then it's likely fine and probably wasn't damaged.

Check for any signs of burning or scorch marks. If you can't see anything wrong, you're probably in the clear. Just be careful, since laptops can run hot.

I'd recommend replacing the charger and checking the charging port for any burn damage. Also, it’s a good idea to get surge protectors for your devices in the future.

From what you describe, it sounds like the AC had an electrical fault that caused the breaker to trip. If other electrical devices in your home are working fine, your laptop should be okay too.
