I'm building a PC with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an ASUS B850-Plus WiFi motherboard. Do I need to update the BIOS before installing the processor? If an update is recommended, where can I download the correct file and what is the safest way to install it? Also, would changing the motherboard require reinstalling Windows or downloading all my programs again?

The motherboard should support the 7800X3D, but check ASUS’s CPU support list and the BIOS version printed on the board or box to confirm. If the installed version is compatible, you can build normally without updating first. Updating to a newer stable BIOS afterward is generally a good idea, but it isn’t automatically required.
A motherboard swap usually doesn’t mean you have to reinstall every program or wipe your drive. Windows may install new hardware drivers after the change, and you might need to reactivate Windows, especially if the license is tied to the old motherboard. A clean installation can help avoid leftover-driver problems, but it’s optional if the existing installation boots and works properly.

Download the BIOS file from the support page for the exact ASUS motherboard model, under BIOS or Firmware. Use a freshly formatted USB drive, extract the downloaded ZIP, and follow the board’s manual for BIOS FlashBack or the in-BIOS update utility. Make sure the file is for the exact model, and never shut off the system while the update is running.
