Will an NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super work well with Bazzite?

For gaming, Bazzite is a solid choice if you want something easier to maintain than a highly customizable distribution. NVIDIA performance is generally good, though brand-new games using cutting-edge features such as path tracing can still have occasional problems. After installing, tools like ProtonUp-Qt can install Proton-GE or other Proton builds, and switching Proton versions often fixes individual game issues.

The RTX 4080 Super should work well with Bazzite. The current proprietary NVIDIA drivers support it, and Bazzite provides NVIDIA-specific images with the drivers already included. Most of the serious compatibility concerns involve much older GPUs or outdated driver setups. I’d personally choose the KDE Plasma edition for a familiar, flexible desktop experience.

NVIDIA has had some rough edges on Linux, especially around the proprietary driver, X11, and Wayland, but the situation has improved a lot. For a beginner, try Bazzite from a USB drive first using a live environment. You can test the desktop, display behavior, and basic hardware support before installing, and make sure your existing files are backed up.
