I'm currently running a Ryzen 7 5800XT, RTX 3070, and an AM4 motherboard. I play mostly esports games at 1080p, along with Forza and other single-player games that I sometimes mod. I plan to move to 1440p and eventually upgrade to AM5, but I want to buy the GPU now because I expect prices to keep rising.
I previously tried an RX 9070 XT and returned it because I experienced severe stuttering and inconsistent performance in several games, along with frustrating shader-compilation times and software that I didn't enjoy using. I prefer Nvidia, so I'm deciding between an RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti.
I understand that my 5800XT will bottleneck either card in some 1080p games. I'm mainly looking for feedback from people with a similar setup: will a 5070 Ti still provide a stable, noticeable improvement over my 3070 at 1080p, especially without major stuttering or dips? I'm less concerned about value comparisons or other brands and more interested in real-world performance now, with 1440p and a platform upgrade planned later.

I had a 5900X paired with a 5070 Ti and it was a solid combination. The main thing is to separate GPU-limited games from CPU-limited ones. Single-player games and demanding graphics settings should show a clear improvement, while very high-refresh esports games may remain limited by the 5800XT. Moving to 1440p later should make better use of the card.
A faster GPU will not fix stuttering caused by a CPU limit, bad game settings, drivers, or shader compilation. In games where your 3070 is already waiting on the CPU at 1080p, the 5070 Ti may only raise the maximum FPS while the average and 1% lows improve less. At 1440p, though, the GPU will take on more of the workload and the upgrade should make much more sense.
For your stated goal, I’d lean toward the 5070 Ti if the price difference is acceptable. It gives you more headroom for the eventual 1440p move and demanding textures or mods. Just don’t expect it to transform every esports title at 1080p until you upgrade the platform. In normal GPU-bound games, it should still be a clear and stable step up from the 3070.
At 1440p, your processor should pair reasonably well with either card in most games. At 1080p, the CPU will matter much more, especially in competitive titles, so you may not see the full difference between a 5070 and 5070 Ti. Still, the faster card should not perform worse than your 3070; it may simply be underutilized in CPU-limited situations.
That’s the kind of comparison I was looking for. I’m fine with the CPU limiting some esports games as long as the new card doesn’t introduce the severe dips and stuttering I experienced before. I’m mainly buying for the upcoming 1440p move and single-player games.
