I'm planning to upgrade from an RTX 2070 SUPER to an AMD RX 9070 XT while using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. My monitor is an AOC AGON AG271QG, a 1440p display with a 165 Hz refresh rate that uses G-Sync. Since this monitor is an older model, I'm unsure whether it supports AMD FreeSync or variable refresh rate with an AMD graphics card. Will the RX 9070 XT work normally with it, and would I lose anything important for competitive shooters or games such as Escape from Tarkov?

The graphics card should work with the monitor, but this particular older G-Sync display may not support FreeSync or AMD’s variable-refresh implementation. In that case, you can still use it at its normal fixed refresh rate, such as 165 Hz, but adaptive sync may not be available. Check the monitor’s exact specifications and available input connections before buying.
For competitive shooters, adaptive sync usually matters less because players commonly disable it and run settings that produce frame rates above the monitor’s refresh rate. If your system can stay above 165 FPS, a fixed 165 Hz mode should still feel responsive. The same idea can apply to Tarkov when performance is high, although its frame rate can fluctuate more, so adaptive sync would be more useful there if the monitor supports it.

This model is from the early G-Sync era, and it may differ from later monitors marketed as G-Sync Compatible. Those newer displays commonly support FreeSync, while this one may require a fixed refresh rate with an AMD card.
