I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5509 with an 11th-generation Intel Core i5 processor. It currently has one 8GB Kingston DDR4 SODIMM installed, leaving one memory slot empty. I'm considering adding a Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) CL22, single-rank, x8, unbuffered 260-pin SODIMM, model CT8G4SFS832A. Would it work reliably alongside the existing Kingston module and allow the laptop to run 16GB in dual-channel mode at 3200 MT/s? Are there concerns with mixing brands, or would it be better to replace the current stick with a matched pair? Also, is unbuffered memory appropriate for this laptop?

A second compatible 8GB stick should enable dual-channel operation, and the Crucial model is the right general type for this system. Mixing Kingston and Crucial is not inherently unsafe, but compatibility depends on the actual specifications and memory chips rather than the brand name. If the system becomes unstable, replace both modules with an identical matched kit.
Check the exact Kingston specifications with CPU-Z or a similar utility before buying. Ideally, match the capacity, speed, voltage, timings, and rank. Different brands can work together, but both modules will generally run using the slower or more conservative settings. If you want the best chance of trouble-free dual-channel operation, a matched 2 x 8GB kit is preferable.
That Crucial module matches the laptop’s supported memory type: DDR4-3200 SODIMM. The Inspiron 15 5509 has two slots and supports a 2 x 8GB configuration, so adding it should work, provided the Kingston stick has compatible specifications. Unbuffered is normal for laptop memory and is fine here.

The laptop will normally configure both sticks to the lowest common speed and timings, so mismatched modules do not automatically cause problems. They just may not perform exactly like a matched kit.
