Will my G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB RAM work with an AMD Ryzen 5?

I'm building my first PC and have almost everything I need, except for the case. While looking up RAM options, I found out about memory profiles like Intel's XMP and AMD's EXPO, and learned that these settings are stored on the RAM itself. I didn't know that not all RAM is compatible with all processors. I've bought a G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB (XMP version) to pair with my Ryzen 5 9600X. Is that going to cause me any problems, or will the RAM just run at a lower speed?

You can still use XMP profiles on some motherboards, like those from Asus. Just check if your motherboard supports it!

You’re right that any RAM can be overclocked with any CPU, but compatibility can depend on the memory controller. Right now, EXPO RAM is recommended since DDR5 is new and AMD’s AM5 memory controllers are still refining. If your RAM is 6000MHz or lower, you should be fine. Just enable EXPO in the BIOS and see if it runs better! The 9000 series has improved memory controllers compared to the 7000 series.

Thanks for the help! This PC building journey is a bit confusing, but I'm getting there. Appreciate it!

What speed is the RAM kit you have? It’s important to know that.
