I'm considering the Gigabyte B650M Aorus Pro AX for my build. If I upgrade to a Ryzen 9 9950X later, should this motherboard be able to run it reliably? I'm also wondering whether I should choose a newer B850 or X870 board instead, although those models cost considerably more where I live.

Itโ€™s a reasonable upgrade path, but keep in mind that buying a top-end CPU several years later may not be the best value. By then, a newer and more efficient AM5 chip could offer better performance. Still, the board shouldnโ€™t prevent you from using a 9950X if the BIOS and cooling are handled properly.

That motherboard should handle the processor, but youโ€™ll need serious cooling for a 9950X, especially under sustained workloads. A quality dual-tower air cooler or a 240mm liquid cooler would be a safer choice than a basic slim tower. Also make sure the case has good airflow.

Yes, it should support the 9950X as long as the BIOS version supports that processor. The boardโ€™s VRM setup and heatsinks are strong enough for a high-end AM5 CPU, assuming you pair it with a suitable power supply and cooler. Check the manufacturerโ€™s CPU support list and update the BIOS if necessary.

The chipset matters less than the boardโ€™s features and power delivery. Before buying, check whether it has enough USB ports, M.2 slots, fan and RGB headers, PCIe expansion slots, and whether the included Wi-Fi meets your needs. If B850 and X870 boards are much more expensive in your region, a good B650 board is still a sensible choice.
