Windows 11 repeatedly disconnects an unknown USB device every few seconds

My Windows 11 PC plays the USB disconnect and reconnect sounds about every 10 seconds, and the interruptions cause noticeable lag. It started randomly after roughly two or three years of otherwise trouble-free use. I unplugged every external device, leaving only the monitor connected, but the problem continued. Device Manager identifies the changing entry as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)." Disabling or uninstalling that entry did not stop it, and I also tried a common troubleshooting guide without success. Since the issue remains with everything external disconnected, what should I check next?

Because it continues with all external devices removed, the culprit is probably something connected internally to a motherboard USB header. Common possibilities include the caseโ€™s front USB ports, an AIO pump, an RGB controller, a fan hub, or an internal Bluetooth/Wi-Fi adapter. Try shutting the PC down and disconnecting the front-panel USB header first, since those ports can fail and repeatedly connect and disconnect.

Check the physical USB ports for dust, debris, or bent contacts. Even a small obstruction can cause intermittent connection failures, so carefully cleaning the ports may help. If the problem started after an update, also check your Windows Update history and temporarily remove the recent updates associated with known USB problems to see whether the behavior changes.

It may be worth checking the power supply and motherboard power connections in the BIOS. An unstable power output or loose connection can cause internal USB devices to reset repeatedly, especially if the problem affects every port and happens even when nothing is plugged in externally.
