I've been trying for several days to remove a file from my Downloads folder. It was originally a normal image, and I have an intact copy elsewhere, so the problem seems limited to this particular file entry. Windows says the file no longer exists or is no longer located in Downloads. I can't delete, rename, copy, or move it. Shift+Delete, several Command Prompt commands, changing permissions, and Unlocker have all failed. I'm using a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15IAN8 running Windows 11. What's the safest way to remove this stuck file entry?

Try clearing Windows’ temporary files, then restart the laptop. Press Win+R, enter %temp%, and delete what Windows allows you to delete. You can also open Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files and remove unnecessary temporary data. After restarting, check whether the phantom entry is gone. Don’t worry if some temporary files refuse to be deleted; they may be in use.
Install or use 7-Zip File Manager and browse to the Downloads folder from inside it. Try renaming the problematic entry there first, then delete it. File managers sometimes handle invalid names or stale Explorer entries better than Windows Explorer. If 7-Zip also reports that the item doesn’t exist, refresh the folder and restart Windows afterward.
I wasn’t sure what “temporary folder” meant, but the Run command opens it. I’ll clear the removable files and restart before trying anything more complicated.
