Windows shows a blank white screen after ending Explorer, even after repairs

I accidentally ended Windows Explorer in Task Manager, and now Windows only displays a blank white screen. I can still open Task Manager and the Ctrl+Alt+Delete menu, but launching explorer.exe through Run new task does nothing. I've already restarted the computer, tried Safe Mode, run SFC and DISM, and rebooted afterward. SFC reported corrupted files, but the problem remains. What should I try next?

Since restarting, Safe Mode, explorer.exe, SFC, and DISM haven’t fixed it, this is probably more than Explorer simply being closed. The Windows installation, user profile, drive, or another hardware component may be corrupted. First, use Task Manager to back up important files if possible, then check the drive and RAM. If the hardware looks healthy, a Windows repair install or full reinstall may be the most reliable fix.

SFC did report corrupted files, but repairing them and rebooting didn’t change anything.

Try using Task Manager to launch System Restore or Windows recovery tools instead of only starting Explorer. If the issue also appears in Safe Mode, that points away from a normal startup app and more toward damaged Windows files, a corrupted profile, or hardware trouble. Make sure your files are backed up before resetting or reinstalling Windows.

Safe Mode also gives me the same blank white screen, so it doesn’t seem to be a regular startup program.

Because SFC found corruption and the screen stays blank even after DISM, run the repair commands from Windows Recovery or installation media if you can. If they still fail, use the recovery environment to copy your data and perform a repair installation or reset. Also check the drive’s health first, since reinstalling Windows won’t solve a failing disk.
