I was running Antigravity while building an app, Android Studio, The Wolf Among Us, and Opera at the same time. Suddenly parts of Windows started disappearing, and File Explorer reported that some paths did not exist. After restarting, Windows looked almost fresh: only a few apps and the browser appeared, while many programs and files seemed to be missing. The game was still installed, and some Adobe applications were still visible through Creative Cloud, so the situation is inconsistent rather than a complete reset. In a panic, I reinstalled Quick Share, Creative Cloud, Antigravity, Android Studio, and PC Health Check, and I also deleted the game. Safe Mode shows the same stripped-down setup. I have important data on the laptop. What should I check, and is there a safe way to restore the original profile, applications, and files without making recovery harder?

The fact that some applications remain installed while others only appear missing still points to either a damaged Windows user profile, a different profile being loaded, or a problem accessing the drive—not necessarily a full reset. Before doing anything else, stop reinstalling software and avoid saving new files to the affected drive. Check C:\Users for the original account folder and compare its size with the profile you are currently using. Also run `echo %USERPROFILE%` in Command Prompt. If it points to a temporary or unexpected folder, the original data may still be intact and the profile can be repaired. If your normal folder is present but Windows still cannot use it, copy important files to an external drive before attempting registry repairs.
Because you reinstalled several programs and deleted the game, recovery is more urgent. New installations can overwrite recoverable data, especially if the deleted files were on the system drive. First copy any accessible documents, photos, project folders, browser data, and other irreplaceable files to an external drive. Then check whether you have File History, OneDrive or another backup, restore points, or a full system image. If the original user folder is missing, unreadable, or suddenly much smaller, shut the laptop down and use a professional data-recovery service or recovery software from another computer rather than installing more tools on this drive.
I already reinstalled a few applications in panic and deleted the game, but I have not intentionally removed my personal folders. The original data is still the priority, so I will stop installing things and check the user folders and backups first.
Do not assume the apps are actually uninstalled just because shortcuts or Start menu entries disappeared. Many Windows programs are installed system-wide, while their shortcuts and settings live inside the user profile. Check the actual installation folders, such as Program Files and AppData, and inspect C:\Users for the old account folder. The missing File Explorer paths could also be caused by a damaged profile, a failed drive connection, file-system corruption, or a drive that is beginning to fail. Check Disk Management to confirm the normal Windows partition is present, but avoid running repair tools that modify the disk until important files are copied or imaged.
I checked Safe Mode and the same reduced setup appears there, so this does not seem to be caused by one startup application. Some programs are still present, including the game before I removed it, and Adobe apps can still be launched through Creative Cloud.
