Windows Update Is Stuck and Failing After Being Interrupted

I noticed unusual stuttering while playing a game, so I checked Task Manager and saw that Windows was downloading an update. I closed the game to let the update run, but it stayed at 6% for about an hour. I eventually shut down the computer, even though I'm not sure whether that was safe. When I tried Windows Update again later, it showed an error and still gets stuck at different percentages. I'm not very experienced with troubleshooting software, so I'm looking for a straightforward fix.

Try resetting the Windows Update download cache. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run `icacls "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution" /reset /t /c /q`. Then run `net stop wuauserv` followed by `net stop bits`. In File Explorer, open `C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download`, select everything inside, and delete it. Return to the administrator Command Prompt and run `net start bits`, then `net start wuauserv`. Restart the computer and try checking for updates again.

MellowCedar47: Okay, Iโ€™ll try those steps and see whether the update works afterward.
