I'm considering a Ryzen 5 5600X3D paired with a Radeon RX 9070 GRE, with the total cost coming to around $670 at a local computer retailer. Would this combination provide a noticeable performance improvement, or would I be better off choosing a different processor or graphics card?

The 5600X3D is a solid choice for extending the life of an AM4 system, and the graphics card upgrade should provide a very noticeable jump over the RTX 3060. That said, if the price difference is reasonable, it may be worth looking at the standard RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT instead of the GRE for better long-term performance. Also check your power supply before upgrading—if it’s below roughly 750W, or from an unreliable brand, replacing it with a reputable model would be wise.
You should see a substantial improvement overall, especially from the GPU. Some people may prefer the Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D for a higher-end graphics card, but the 5600X3D is still a capable gaming CPU and isn’t automatically a poor match. Check independent reviews for the games and resolution you use, since the best CPU choice depends on whether you’re CPU-limited or GPU-limited.
