Would a Z590 motherboard improve RTX 3070 performance with an i9-10850K?

I'm considering replacing my ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS with a Z590 motherboard. My current system has an Intel i9-10850K, 64GB of G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-4000, and a Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC. The processor and current platform use PCIe 3.0, while the graphics card supports PCIe 4.0. Would moving to a PCIe 4.0-capable motherboard improve gaming or graphics performance, or would the CPU still limit the GPU to PCIe 3.0?
Answers
A Z590 motherboard wonโt provide a meaningful graphics boost here. The i9-10850Kโs CPU-connected PCIe lanes are still PCIe 3.0, so the graphics card would continue operating at PCIe 3.0 speeds. Even when comparing PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 directly, an RTX 3070 usually sees only a tiny difference in real-world performance.

Since the system is already handling your recording and mixing work well, keeping the current platform is probably the sensible choice. Thereโs no urgent need to move to DDR5 or replace the board just for this feature. Enjoy the setup until you have a performance problem that a real component upgrade can solve.

I wouldnโt replace the motherboard just for PCIe 4.0. The upgrade cost isnโt justified by the expected performance gain, especially with an RTX 3070. If you eventually want noticeably better gaming performance at 1440p, upgrading the graphics card would make much more sense, although your CPU could become a limit in some games.

Thanks, that clears things up and saves me from buying a motherboard for no real benefit. I mainly use the PC for recording bands and mixing, where it works perfectly, and gaming is more of a bonus. Iโll stick with the current setup for now.
