Would upgrading from 16GB to 32GB RAM improve performance in newer games?

Moving from 16GB to 32GB can help with stuttering, background applications, and games that use a lot of memory, but it usually won’t provide a major increase in average FPS. Check your RAM usage while playing. If it is nearly full, adding another 16GB of compatible DDR4 could help; otherwise, the upgrade probably won’t change much.

The expected performance depends heavily on the game, resolution, ray tracing, upscaling, and whether the settings are truly maxed out. A 60 FPS target at 1080p is much easier than 1440p cinematic settings. Before buying parts, try the same game at 1080p with high settings and compare performance, then adjust demanding options such as ray tracing, shadows, and volumetric effects.

At 1440p with high or cinematic settings, the GPU is usually the main limitation. Monitor GPU usage while playing with something like an in-game overlay. If the GPU is consistently around 95–100%, lowering settings, using upscaling, or reducing resolution will help more than adding RAM. If GPU usage is low while performance is poor, then check the CPU, temperatures, drivers, and frame-rate settings.

You can’t simply install DDR5 in this system. DDR4 and DDR5 use different slots, so switching would require a compatible motherboard and usually a new CPU as well. That would be a platform upgrade, not a straightforward RAM upgrade. Your current memory should generally be adequate for gaming, although 32GB of DDR4 is a reasonable quality-of-life upgrade.
