I recently put together a new AM5 PC, and I'm running into a frustrating issue. After finishing the build, when I turn it on, it powers up briefly but then shuts off automatically. I can get into the BIOS and even BitLocker briefly, but it won't stay on long enough for me to do anything. The first time I tried, I got a warning that the CPU was overheating, but I made sure to apply the correct amount of thermal paste and removed the plastic wrap from the cooler. Here are my specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
- Motherboard: B650 Tomahawk
- RAM: Crucial Pro 32GB DDR5
- GPU: RTX 4070 Super
- Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Halo 120mm CPU Cooling Fan
- Case: Corsair 4000
- Power Supply: Corsair RM 750X Gold rated
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like there might be an issue with your CPU cooler. Have you considered remounting it? Sometimes thermal paste can misapply, leading to overheating. Make sure it’s seated properly and there’s good contact with the CPU surface.
Also, it’s worth checking if the cooler is adequate for the Ryzen 5 7600X. It might not be efficient enough, or there could be a combination of factors at play causing the overheating.
