Should I Choose a 1080p or 1440p Monitor for Gaming?

I'm building a new PC with a 7800x3d and aiming for either a 5070, 9070, or 7900xt graphics card. I plan on playing competitive games at 1080p for high frame rates, but I also want to enjoy some AAA titles and simulators like MSFS24. I'm unsure if it's worth investing in a 1440p monitor since I'd downscale for competitive play. Any suggestions?

With those GPUs, I'd go for a 1440p monitor with a high refresh rate. If you need higher frame rates in FPS games, you can always switch to 1080p, but 1440p will give you stunning visuals overall.

If you're serious about competitive gaming, stick with 1080p for pure FPS benefits. But honestly, 1440p is the way to go if you're gaming casually or enjoying single-player experiences. It really enhances the visuals!

Yeah, just remember that if you try 1440p, you might not want to go back to 1080p! It really does make a difference.

Definitely skip 1080p with your setup—it's kind of a waste! A 1440p resolution looks so much better, especially on larger screens, and will still give you excellent performance with those cards.

I totally agree! The jump from 1080 to 1440 is huge, and it sounds like your PC can handle it! You'll love the upgrade, especially for single-player games.

If you're going for that level of graphics card, absolutely opt for 1440p! When playing competitive games, you can just run them at 1080p, so you'll get the best of both worlds.
