Need Help Installing Linux on My Beelink Mini PC

Hey everyone! I'm having a tough time getting Linux to work on my new Beelink Mini PC (the EQI12 model with Intel's 12th Gen Core i5 1235U). I've been trying to install Ubuntu but have also messed around with Debian to see if it would work. I created a Live USB using Rufus to flash the OS, but the installer keeps failing, usually at different points each time. The furthest I've managed to get so far has been quite limited.

I've installed Linux before on an old MacBook using Live USBs and in VMs, so I'm not completely clueless. I suspect that my issues might stem from the fact that it came pre-loaded with Windows 11. I've read that Windows might interfere with the Linux installation process. I've encountered some guides about mounting partitions and using the boot-repair tool that I'll be exploring. Just to clarify, I'm not looking to dual boot; I want a clean install of Linux to use as a headless home server.

I know I can't provide specific error messages, but I have a few questions:

1) Could Windows 11's presence be the reason for my troubles?
2) Can someone explain how the Linux boot loader works? I thought using the Live USB would take care of it, but maybe there's more to it?
3) Is there a way to completely cleanse the system to start fresh? Any simplified tools or options that could aid in getting Linux installed smoothly?

Thanks so much for reading and for any guidance you can provide!

Check out some installation tips in our wiki; they might help! It’s generally advised to install with an ethernet connection and remember to remove your boot media after installation!

Thanks for pointing that out! I've already gone through the tips, but I haven't updated my BIOS yet. That's next on my list!

I have a Beelink Mini PC too, just the Mini S12 model running Debian and I didn't face any issues during installation. I used the netinstall ISO and created the USB stick with Gnome Disks. Maybe try that?

Did you wipe Windows during the install?

I had a Beelink mini PC with Zorin installed alongside Windows. It worked fine, but now I’ve completely replaced it with Bazzite and it performs great!

I doubt you'll have major problems installing Linux on that setup. Just make sure you've disabled secure boot and fast boot in the BIOS, that usually helps.
